Following helmet suppliers such as POC and Scott, Giro and Bell helmets will also be equipped with MIPS technology in the future. This was announced by Greg Shapleigh from Giro Sport Design at Eurobike.

MIPS (Multidirectional Impact Protection System) is a technology in which a floating shell integrated into the helmet partially absorbs the acceleration energy generated for a fraction of a second in the event of a fall, which is dangerous for the brain. This safety technology was invented by a team of scientists at Karolinska Hospital and the Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm, Sweden.

After MIPS was only found in a few mountain bike helmets in the past, the new partnership with Giro and Bell could give the market a boost, especially as the Americans and their two brands are, according to their own information, the global market leaders for cycling helmets in the sports segment. The first MIPS-equipped road bike helmet in the Giro range is called Savant and will soon be on sale for a relatively favourable 109 euros.
