GIANT ToughRoad SLR 2

The "ToughRoad SLR 2" model from GIANT, released in 2023, is a versatile bike designed for challenging rides on a variety of surfaces. Priced at 1299 EUR, it offers robust, high-quality components that are suitable for both everyday use and longer rides.

The ToughRoad SLR 2’s frame is an AluxX SLR frame with quick-release (QR) skewers and offers a maximum tyre clearance of 53 mm, ensuring extra stability and comfort on uneven terrain. The fork is a GIANT ToughRoad Advanced Carbon with an OverDrive1 aluminium steerer tube and quick-release skewers, which reduces the bike’s overall weight and improves handling.

Reliable braking performance is provided by Shimano BR-MT200 hydraulic disc brakes with 160 mm rotors, operated by Shimano BL-MT201 brake levers. The drivetrain consists of a Shimano Alivio M3100 9-speed rear derailleur and Shimano Altus M2010 2-speed shifters, complemented by a Shimano Acera front derailleur. This combination enables precise and smooth gear changes.

The bike’s drivetrain is powered by a KMC X-9 chain, whilst the ProWheel crankset is fitted with 44/28T chainrings and a chain guard. The bottom bracket is a cartridge model, known for its durability and low maintenance requirements. The Shimano CS-HG201 cassette offers a gear range of 11–36T, providing a wide selection of gears for various terrains.

The cockpit of the ToughRoad SLR 2 consists of a GIANT Connect XC handlebar with a width of 640 mm and GIANT Connect Ergo grips, which ensure comfort on longer rides. The stem is a GIANT Contact model with a length of 100 mm, which supports an optimal riding position.

The wheelsets consist of GIANT GX28 rims and GIANT Sycamore S tyres in size 700x50c with 60 TPI. These are supplied with inner tubes and offer excellent grip and puncture protection. The hubs are also GIANT GX28 Disc models, and the spokes are made of stainless steel (14G).

The saddle is a GIANT Sport model, mounted on a GIANT D-Fuse seatpost, which absorbs vibrations and enhances riding comfort. In addition, the bike is fitted with a down tube guard to protect the frame from stone chips and other damage.

The frame geometry offers a balanced riding position: with a reach of 411 mm, a stack of 602 mm, a seat tube length of 460 mm and a top tube length of 595 mm. The head tube angle is 72 degrees, the seat tube angle is 73 degrees, and the head tube length is 150 mm. The chainstay length is 450 mm, the bottom bracket drop is 70 mm, the fork offset is 42 mm, and the standover height is 754 mm. The crank length is 175 mm, and the wheelbase measures 1078 mm.
