GIANT ToughRoad SLR 1

GIANT’s “ToughRoad SLR 1” model from 2023 is a versatile and robust bike designed for a variety of uses. Priced at 1,499 EUR, it offers high-quality components and solid build quality.

The frame of the ToughRoad SLR 1 is made from AluxX SLR aluminium and is fitted with a quick-release (QR) mechanism. It offers a maximum tyre clearance of 53 mm, which allows for the fitting of wider tyres, thereby enhancing comfort and off-road capability. The fork is a GIANT ToughRoad Advanced Carbon with an OverDrive1 aluminium steerer tube and QR.

Braking performance is provided by Shimano hydraulic disc brakes – specifically the BR-MT200 model with 160 mm rotors – controlled by Shimano BL-MT201 brake levers. The drivetrain is a 10-speed Shimano Deore M5120 Shadow+, combined with a 2-speed Shimano Deore M6000 shifter and a Shimano Deore front derailleur. These components offer precise and reliable shifting performance.

The bottom bracket is a cartridge type, whilst the crankset is a ProWheel RPP 521P with 44/32T chainrings and a chain guard. The cassette is a Shimano Deore M4100 with an 11–42T range, and the drivetrain uses a KMC X-10 chain.

The handlebars are GIANT Connect XC, 690 mm wide, fitted with GIANT Connect Ergo grips. The stem is a GIANT Contact, 110 mm long. The rims are GIANT GX28, fitted with GIANT Sycamore S tyres in size 700x50c and a TPI of 60. The hubs are also GIANT GX28 Disc, whilst the spokes are made of stainless steel (14G).

The saddle is a GIANT Sport model, mounted on a GIANT D-Fuse seatpost. The bike is also fitted with front and rear luggage racks, making it ideal for longer tours and carrying luggage. A down tube guard provides additional protection against stone chips and other damage.

The frame geometry comprises a reach of 405 mm, a stack of 642 mm, a seat tube length of 550 mm and a top tube length of 620 mm. The head tube angle is 72 degrees, as is the seat tube angle. The head tube length is 190 mm, the chainstay length is 450 mm, and the bottom bracket is dropped by 70 mm. The fork offset is 42 mm, the standover height is 864 mm, the crank length is 175 mm and the wheelbase is 1080 mm.
