Hard shell, safe bike? TOUR took six bike cases to the hard shells to test whether they protect the precious cargo well. (TOUR 2/2006)

You are sitting in the departure lounge. You're finally off to the training camp. The prospect of your first kilometres on a racing bike in the sunshine pumps plenty of happiness hormones into your still weak body. Suddenly your eyes stare in shock, the happiness hormones are washed away. Outside, instead of disappearing into the belly of the plane, you see your wheeled suitcase plummet from the conveyor belt. A bang, plastic bursts, bike and case lie in pieces on the tarmac. A disaster.

If you wake up from your nightmare drenched in sweat - lucky you! But take it as a clear reminder to think about transporting your bike to your holiday destination. After all, it's not that rare for bikes to be left damaged in the arrivals hall.
