The cheapest bike case we know of is available from Bonn-based Bike Discount. The hard shell with external dimensions of 118 x 103 x 82 x 28 centimetres has two fixed and two swivel wheels; handles for pulling and carrying are in the right places. With wheel pockets, straps, inner padding and a parts bag for accessories, the equipment is complete and the workmanship is good. Two lockable push locks and a combination lock secure the contents, while a strap and four external toggle fasteners additionally hold the shells together. Locks and castors can be easily replaced if damaged because they are screwed on. Unfortunately, the 14.5-kilo case (including accessories) does not fit racing bikes up to size 64, time trial bikes or frames with an integrated seat post. Points are deducted in the crash test. After falling from a height of 1.50 metres, the shell around the fixed wheels was broken, and it also gives way quite quickly to lateral pressure.
PLUS: favourable; good handling and processing
MINUS: The case shell broke in the crash test; not suitable for racers with integrated seat post
