The solution for missing threads

With the HydroMount, the British manufacturer Tailfin has developed an answer to a widespread problem in cycling. Many riders struggle with inadequate mounting options for Drinking bottlesespecially for small frame sizes or full-suspension mountain bikes. The new system allows bottle cages to be mounted anywhere on the frame without the need for existing threads.

The development is based on the already established V-mount technology that Tailfin uses in its Frame bags is used. This special design prevents the attachment from slipping and at the same time protects the frame from damage. The soft rubber-like protective cover (thermoplastic elastomer) adapts to different tube profiles and protects sensitive paintwork or carbon surfaces from scratches.

1.5 kilo load capacity

The HydroMount system utilises the standardised 64mm thread spacing for bottle cages, ensuring compatibility with the commercially available brackets is guaranteed. The load capacity varies depending on the version: the basic version with two straps can carry up to one kilo, while the full version with three straps can withstand a maximum load of 1.5 kilos.

The design integrates moulded threaded inserts directly into the plastic body, which promises long-term durability. A special screw set with stop protection prevents damage when tightening. The tool-free adjustment allows quick adjustments while riding or during breaks. Despite the robust design, the system remains compact enough to be stowed away in a tool roll when not in use.

Versatile application possibilities

The HydroMount is primarily aimed at increasing hydration capacity, especially when frame bags block the standard bottle cage. The system is based on the principle that anything that fits in a bottle cage can also be transported on a bike. In addition to drinking bottles, toolboxes, cookware or other cylindrical objects are also suitable for transport.

The target group includes different types of riders with specific requirements. Owners of small frames benefit from additional mounting points, as compact geometries often only have one bottle cage thread. Riders of older racing bikes or mountain bikes without modern mounting standards are given new options for equipment. Gravel riders and bikepackers often need more hydration capacity on long tours than standard positions offer.

Construction details and choice of materials

The V-mount geometry forms the centrepiece of the attachment and ensures a secure hold without slipping. This tried and tested design comes from Tailfin's experience with frame and top tube bags, where it has proven itself over the years. The special shape of the contact surface distributes the load evenly over a larger contact surface on the frame tube.

The material of the rubber-like protective cover offers optimum properties for frame protection. It remains flexible and non-slip even with temperature fluctuations, without hardening or becoming sticky. The surface structure prevents moisture from penetrating between the mounting and frame, which prevents corrosion or damage to the paintwork. The black colour blends unobtrusively into most frame designs.

The prices

With a retail price of 25 euros for the basic version and 30 euros for the fully equipped version, the HydroMount is positioned as an affordable solution. This pricing marks a departure from Tailfin's previous focus on premium luggage carriers and bikepacking systems. The company is thus opening up to a wider range of customers who occasionally require additional transport capacity.

This price structure also makes the system interesting for everyday drivers and commuters who previously had to rely on expensive special solutions. The low entry-level price lowers the inhibition threshold for drivers who only occasionally need to transport additional equipment.

5-year warranty and customer service

Tailfin grants a five-year guarantee on the HydroMount against manufacturing defects, which emphasises the confidence in the longevity of the product. In the event of defects due to material faults or faulty workmanship, the product will be repaired or replaced at no additional cost. The full warranty conditions can be viewed on the manufacturer's website.

A special service applies to accidental damage: riders whose HydroMount is damaged in a fall receive a 30 per cent discount on an equivalent replacement. This goodwill arrangement shows the manufacturer's understanding of the realities of cycling, where crashes can occur despite all precautions. The service is designed to get riders back on their bikes quickly without having to worry about high follow-up costs.

Technical details

The HydroMount differs from improvised solutions thanks to its well thought-out design details. While simple belt fastenings or DIY solutions often appear unstable and can damage frames, the system integrates several protective functions. The lowest overall height of all comparable mounting systems reduces the impact on riding dynamics.

The integrated threaded inserts avoid the weak point of many plastic fasteners, where screws loosen over time or tear out the material. The positive connection between the metal thread and the plastic body is created during the injection moulding process and therefore offers greater strength than inserts that are pressed in later.

Target groups and application

The HydroMount addresses different groups of riders with specific needs. Commuters appreciate the option of transporting additional equipment such as tools or spare clothing without having to rely on rucksacks. The tool-free assembly enables quick adjustments depending on daily requirements.

Gravel riders and bikepackers are often faced with the problem of limited drinking capacity, especially in hot regions or on tours lasting several days. The HydroMount makes it possible to carry additional bottles in positions that are aerodynamically favourable or easy to reach. The robust construction holds reliably even on rough terrain without vibrations loosening the attachment.
