At the start line in Castione della Presolana, you could see many tense faces. There was obvious excitement ahead of the long sixth stage with its many metres of altitude. And not without reason. The penultimate day was a tough one. The participants faced 3240 metres of altitude over 119 kilometres. The heat made the conditions even more difficult.
The route of the sixth day of the TOUR Transalp 2022 first took the athletes back up to the Passo della Presolana, which then led them over to the neighbouring valley, to Dezzo di Scalve. From here, the small, inconspicuous but no less beautiful pass, the Croce di Salven, was climbed before rolling down to Breno. It was here, in the valley town of the Passo Croce Domini, that the TOUR Transalp had only been once before, in 2017. Today, the centrepiece of the royal stage followed here: the Passo Croce Domini. A road with little traffic then led the athletes through an almost mystically deserted world of tiny mountain villages and vast alpine pastures up to the lesser-known but scenically breathtaking pass summit, the Goletto di Cadino. After a 30 kilometre descent with a small climb in the opposite direction, the route reached the shores of Lago d'Idro. This is where the river Chiese, which gives the valley its name, flows into the lake. After a few kilometres into the valley, the racing cyclists reached their destination of Roncone, although there were still another 400 metres of ascent on the route map.
Today's Alpine passes: Passo della Presolana, Croce di Salven, Passo Croce Domini (Goletto di Cadino). After today's tour of violence, everyone can celebrate their achievement with pride and look forward to a refreshing dip in Lake Garda. Because tomorrow is the day: the final stage to Arco on Italy's largest lake awaits.
