Stylish, but expensive: Even though Colnago did not name any prices for the special editions, both the Y1Rs and the V4Rs in world champion livery are likely to cost well over 10,000 euros.Photo: Colnago/Nicola VettorelloStylish, but expensive: Even though Colnago did not name any prices for the special editions, both the Y1Rs and the V4Rs in world champion livery are likely to cost well over 10,000 euros.

Both racing bikes bear the characteristic rainbow stripes of the reigning world champion and are a tribute to Colnago's 28th world championship title. The V4Rs comes in a basic white colour with the UCI rainbow stripes on the fork, top tube and seat tube. The Y1Rs follows a similar concept with rainbow stripes on the top tube and fork. A total of eight further colour variants are available for both models.

Colnago V4Rs and Y1Rs: Race all-rounders and aero bolides

The V4Rs is a versatile racing all-rounder, while the Y1Rs is a pure aero bike with a distinctive frame shape: unlike the classic diamond frame, the seat tube does not form a line between the top tube and bottom bracket, but bends at the height of the seat stays. This design, which Colnago calls "Defy", has been possible since the World Cycling Union adapted the rules almost four years ago. According to the UCI, the seat post no longer has to protrude from the seat tube, but "can be attached to the frame at any point on the seat tube and/or top tube".

The bikes in the world champion look will be available from authorised Colnago dealers, as the traditional brand announced. The prices are not known. However, it is clear that both bikes are likely to remain out of reach for the majority. After all, the new Y1Rs already starts at 12300 euros in standard paintwork, the V4Rs in the version tested by TOUR costs a fantastic 14540 euros.
