After only two years on the market, Pinarello is renovating the F series. In contrast to the professional Dogma F model, it is intended to provide a more affordable entry into the Italian manufacturer's race models - with only a few technical compromises. Nevertheless, the bikes remain expensive.

The Italian bike manufacturer Pinarello has presented the next generation of its popular F series. The model range was only was introduced two years ago and offers the racing technology of the Italians at a slightly lower price level. The completely revised model family comprises five different bikes aimed at performance-orientated and tech-savvy riders. The platform is designed to offer a good balance of performance, weight and price. The F9 leads the range as the top model, followed by the F7, F5, F3 and F1. However, the bikes are not really cheap compared to the competition: depending on the equipment, they range between 3400 and 11000 euros.

Pinarello F: The most important facts

  • Weight of complete wheel: from 7.4 kilogrammes
  • Stack/Reach/STR: 558/388 millimetres/1.44 (size 54.5)
  • Max. tyre clearance: 32 millimetres
  • Frame sizes: 43/46,5/50/51,5/53/54,5/56/57,5/59,5
  • Prices: 3400 to 11000 Euro

According to the manufacturer, all bikes in the new F series are conceptually orientated towards the flagship Dogma F model, which is considered the reference for real racing bikes. Visually, the frames are almost indistinguishable from the noble racer, as they have the typical brand face of the manufacturer from Treviso. The risk of confusion may well be a concept with the F series, as the professional bikes are considered to be extremely desirable, but also extremely expensive products. The changes to the previous model are also only minor in terms of appearance. Pinarello emphasises the versatility of the new bikes, which are also suitable for various purposes despite their clear racing orientation. For example, the racing bikes in the F series can take tyres up to 32 millimetres wide for poor surfaces.

New features include a modified cable routing at the front and an ovalised steerer tube. The head tube and down tube have been aerodynamically optimised, while a revised rear triangle and new bottom bracket design are intended to increase rigidity. The F has also been given a new seatpost clamp: instead of at the back of the seat tube, it is now integrated into the top tube in front of the seatpost, which should protect it better from dirt.

Pinarello F: Equipment and prices

Three different carbon qualities are used in the frame construction for the model series, each of which is intended to fulfil the rider's requirements. The F9 and F7 are made from T900, while the F5 and F3 use T700 carbon. The F1 is manufactured using T600 carbon. It can be assumed that the lower quality frames will also be heavier. However, Pinarello does not specify individual frame and fork weights. Frame weights from 950 grams were communicated for the predecessor model.
