The Cervélo Soloist has been designed for people who train regularly on a road bike, take part in races and are looking for a versatile performance bike. The Soloist aims to impress with its well-balanced overall design.
As early as the early 2000s, the Cervélo Soloist was competing at the very highest level, helping top teams achieve numerous successes. Today, the latest generation builds on this legacy, combining tried-and-tested racing DNA with state-of-the-art technology.
The Canadians’ new bike is said to combine low weight with aerodynamic efficiency even more effectively than its predecessor, thereby offering precisely the characteristics that can make all the difference to road cyclists, both in everyday riding and in competition.
Nevertheless, the Cervélo Soloist remains more down-to-earth in terms of price than its Competition Brother S5. According to Cervélo, the Soloist was not designed for the high-profile athletes we see on television, but for real, flesh-and-blood sportspeople who want to rely on high-quality equipment every day.
With a stronger focus on aerodynamic advantages, the Cervélo Soloist sets itself apart from the company’s own R5. Following extensive CFD analyses (CFD: Computational Fluid Dynamics, numerical flow simulation), Cervélo concluded that whilst a larger surface area on an aero road bike does make it faster, it also adds to its weight, and so sought a compromise.
The developers have increased the surface area of the frame by three per cent and that of the fork by eight per cent on the new Soloist. In detail, these changes are reflected in a deeper head tube, flatter fork legs and a wider bottom bracket area, which is designed to provide particularly good protection for the rear wheel.
Overall, Cervélo claims this delivers an aerodynamic advantage of 8.6 watts compared with its predecessor. At the same time, the use of materials has been optimised to the extent that weight has actually been reduced – by 287 grams, to be precise. The Canadians claim their new aero road bike weighs from 6.85 kilos.
Cervélo, of course, is well aware that any aero road bike is only as good as its details. That is why the new Soloist features special, aerodynamic water bottles. Compared to two conventional, round bottles, this integrated solution is said to save 4.3 watts. Nevertheless, the aero bottles are designed to stand securely whilst being filled. The bottle cages remain compatible with round bottles.
As a true performance bike, every specification of the 2027 Cervélo Soloist comes with carbon wheels, a power meter and an aero cockpit. The latter is available in a wide range of ergonomically different variants. If the option fitted as standard does not suit, customers can request an alternative free of charge via their specialist dealer within 60 days of purchase.
Following numerous refinements, the Cervélo Soloist is now more aerodynamic, lighter and faster. This update breathes new life into the Canadian brand’s aero racer. As a result, the 2027 Cervélo Soloist is set to be a high-performance road bike that ambitious road cyclists will be keen to add to their garage. - Jan Timmermann, BIKE editor
