As with the recently presented Speedmachine BMC once again brought in motorsport expertise for the Teammachine R. Together with Red Bull Advanced Technologies, which usually works on the performance of world champion Max Verstappen's Formula 1 car, a versatile competition racing bike was created. The basis for this was the Teammachine SLR, which Felix Gall (AG2R Citroën) rode in an exclusive configuration during his triumph on the queen stage of this year's Tour de France.
Aero optimisation was the top priority during development. Although BMC did not provide any wattage figures at the presentation of the Teammachine R, the frame design suggests that the new bike is significantly faster than the SLR version that is still available. The tube shapes are based on the UCI regulations in force since 2021: the head tube and bottom bracket area in particular are elongated. However, the undisputed highlight is the so-called halo fork. The extremely large distance between the two bars is intended to reduce air turbulence - and thus make the BMC faster. The streamlined cockpit, which distinguishes the Teammachine R from the Gravelbike Kaius The slim seatpost and integrated bottle cage round off the aero concept.
According to the manufacturer, the top model in size 54 weighs exactly seven kilograms. BMC states a weight of 910 grams for the frame, while the fork is said to weigh 345 grams. Comparable race all-rounders such as the Cannondale SuperSix Evo Lab71 or Specialized S-Works Tarmac SL8 are between 200 and 400 grams lighter. But possibly also slower? Our wind tunnel test will find out. Unfortunately, BMC was unable to provide us with a model for the launch of the Teammachine R. The race geometry (STR: 1.43) is almost identical to the SLR. Only the seat tube angle is slightly steeper for smaller frame sizes and slightly slacker for larger frame sizes.
BMC offers the Teammachine R in four equipment variants. All models shift electronically with Shimano (Dura-Ace, Ultegra) or SRAM (Red, Force) and roll on carbon wheels from DT Swiss or our own production. Available in six frame sizes, the racing machine is an exclusive pleasure: The basic version costs as little as 8999 euros, while the top model is priced at 14999 euros.
